Synopsis of the Main Idea

Synopsis of the Main Idea

Synopsis:

This music video will tell the story of a couple who has broken up. It shows them being sad
and not over each other as they constantly look back on old photos and messages, yet
they’re too scared to text each other, which is ironic as they both really want each other, this
would relate back to the lyrics and song title ‘we don’t talk anymore’. Despite them missing
each other, they choose to try and get over the break up, as they try to get rid of
memories. The video will contain flashbacks during the verses, which will be bright and
vibrant, as they will show the happiness they had during the good parts of their
relationship, such as long walks in the park or movie nights in. However, during the chorus
the video will become dull coloured and blue toned, to represent sadness, and the screen
will split to show both the girl's and boy's perspective. The video will contain Barthes’ action
code as it only shows the couples happy moments in the flashbacks which leaves the
audience wondering why they broke up as that part of the narrative is restricted from their
knowledge. Therefore, it will also oppose Todorov's equilibrium, as there will be no clear,
beginning, middle and end, the video will show the start/middle of their relationship, where
they are happy, as part of the flashbacks, however it won't show the end of it, leaving the
audience unsure of why they broke up, then it'll show the beginning of their heartbreak as
they get rid of memories/photos, not showing how they get over it.

Lyrics

We don't talk anymore
We don't talk anymore
We don't talk anymore

Like we used to do
We don't love anymore
What was all of it for
Ohh, we don't talk anymore
Like we used to do
I just heard you found the one you been looking
You been looking for
I wish I would have known that wasn't me
'Cause even after all this time I still wonder
Why I can't move on
Just the way you did so easily
Don't wanna know
Kinda dress you're wearing tonight
If he's holdin onto you so tight
The way I did before
I overdosed
Should have known your love was a game
Now I can't get you out of my brain
Ohh, it's such a shame
That we don't talk anymore
We don't talk anymore
We don't talk anymore

Like we used to do
We don't love anymore
What was all of it for?
Oh, we don't talk anymore
Like we used to do
Like we used to do
I just hope you're lying next to somebody
Knows how to love you like me
Must be a good reason that you're gone
Every now and then I think you might want me to come show up at your door
But I'm just too afraid that I'll be wrong
Don't wanna know
If you're looking into her eyes
If she's holdin onto you so tight
The way I did before
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game
Now I can't get you out of my brain
Oh, it's such a shame
We don't talk anymore
(We don't we don't)
We don't talk anymore
(We don't we don't)
We don't talk anymore

Like we used to do
We don't love anymore
(We don't we don't)
What was all of it for?
(We don't we don't)
Oh, we don't talk anymore
Like we used to do
Like we used to do
Don't wanna know
Kinda dress you're wearing tonight
If he's giving it to you just right
The way I did before
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game
Now I can't get you out of my brain
Oh, it's such a shame
We don't talk anymore
(We don't we don't)
We don't talk anymore
(We don't we don't)
We don't talk anymore
Like we used to do
We don't love anymore
(We don't we don't)
What was all of it for?
(We don't we don't)
Oh, we don't talk anymore
Like we used to do
(We don't talk anymore)
Don't wanna know
Kinda dress you're wearing tonight (Oh)
If he's holding onto you so tight (Oh)
The way I did before
(We don't talk anymore)
I overdosed
Should've known your love was a game (Oh)
Now I can't get you out of my brain (Woah)
Oh, it's such a shame
That we don't talk anymore

Chorus:
'We don't talk anymore' - While the chorus is sung there will be split screen shots where the two actors are seen in separate places, reminiscing their relationship. Some scenes will show them looking at old photos and some scenes will show them wanting to text each other. This will reference the lyrics (Goodwin's theory)
'We don't love anymore' - As these words are sung the actors will look sad, which references the lyrics as there's no love there anymore, it will also make the audience sympathetic towards them and following Blumler and Katz's theory it may create a personal relationship with the audeince as they will feel as though they know the characters more.

Verses:
'Every now and then I think you might want me to come show up at your door' - For this scene I will make the boy walk up to the girl's door with flowers in his hands, in order to make a direct reference to the lyrics (Goodwin's theory)
'Don't wanna know, Kinda dress you're wearing tonight' - For this scene I will once again be directly referencing the lyrics, as I will show the girl asking the boy to help her choose a dress for their night out.
'Cause even after all this time I still wonder, why I can't move on' - As this is sung the scene shown will be a flashback to when they were a couple, creating a direct reference to the lyrics as it shows how he is still thinking about her. This could create a personal relationship with the audeince (Blumler and Katz) as it lets the audeince into the characters brain, showing what he is feeling and thinking, which makes the audeince feel as though they know him on a personal level.
'Should've known your love was a game' - As this is sung there will be a flashback scene of the couple happily together, this will be a direct juxtoposition to the lyrics sung. The scene will be happy, following Hebdiges theory that teens are fun, whereas the lyrics will present them as trouble, due to the reference of love as a 'game'.
