Logo Design

Logo Design

Video Productions Logo:

The name N.C Productions comes from my name and what the company offers. I made sure the name of the company was short as that would make it more memorable to others, rather than trying to describe what it offers using a lot of words. Company names don't have to be super complicated, they just need to give the audience a hint about what the company does and N.C Productions tells the target audience that the company works on producing media, such as music videos or film.
First I hand drew my different logo ideas on A4 paper and then I went over them in a black
marker so that I could scan them in using a printer, in order for them to appear on my computer screen. I then decided my production logo would be the bottom left one as I think   its very simple and the use of the camera just shows what the company does. It's a very basic design, however I think it does the job.

In order to create my logo I used Photoshop. I begun using the pen tool, however it was very hard to do the circles so i ended up using the shape tool instead. I made different layers for each shape so that it was easy to move them around if needed. I decided I would use grey scale colours for the logo as the colour black represents power and sophistication which is what I want my company to represent and then I used grey and white for some depth/detail. I used my original drawing for a reference in the background and I begun by making the big black, rectangle as a base. I then added the smaller rectangle at the back. I created two different sized circles in order to create an old filming camera look. I added smaller grey circles inside the black circles to give it some depth and then inside that I added smaller white circles as details to make it look more like a camera. For the legs of the camera I just used the text box tool and used the letter 'X' as it made the legs even whereas using the rectangle shape tool made it hard to make them symmetrical and even. I then played around with some fonts and ended up choosing a serif font. I made the 'N.C' white and put it inside the camera and then I made the 'productions' text black and put it below the camera. I then merged all the layers together so that I could move them around at the same time. Finally I deleted the background in order to make it a PNG file, which allows me to put it on anything without the white background getting in the way.

Artist Logo:

First, I hand drew my different logo ideas on A4 paper and then I went over them in a black
marker so that I could scan them in using a printer, in order for them to appear on my computer screen. I then decided I wanted to use the design in the circle using just the initials of my artist's name, however at this point I was still uncertain on the colours I would use.

I wanted to create an extended logo where I used the artists full name and a simplified one where I use shapes or just a few letters. So I created this logo above. I used a bold, white san serif font ( Lulo Clean) for his first name to really make it stand out and draw attention, especially on the website. I then used a black serif font (Lobster) for his surname and I made the font size smaller and placed it under the first name. Both words are capitalised in order to draw attention, then I used two different fonts, as the use of the serif font makes it more playful and it contrasts the clean bold san serif font above it and the two contrasting colours make the logo stand out against the background and appear more interesting to the audience. I think it's quite an effective logo as most pop stars keep their logos simple and avoid over complicating them.

I started off by playing around with fonts, shapes and colours, just to experiment and see what I wanted the logo to look like. The logo above was my first draft, I used a san serif font which was italicised for the first letter of the first and second name and then I placed the rest of the letters in to fully spell out the names, but I used the original font from the logo above. However, I wasn't very happy with how this looked, the fonts didn't go well together and I didn't like the italicised initials. The logo was also off centre, which is something I'd make sure I fixed for my final logo. Although I wasn't happy with how this turned out, it did help me develop my initial idea. I liked the concept of using a circle as my background and I decided I would definitely keep the initials in it, I'd just use a different font.

I started off by changing the background colour to the same colour as the one on the website so that I could see exactly what it would look like. I then used the shape tool in order to create my circle base. I chose the colour white as its a light colour and it would go well with the website, it would also allow me to use any colour for the initials. Instead of using a default photoshop font I decided to make the letters out of rectangles. I firstly made the vertical rectangle for the letter L and then I copied it twice for the two vertical lines in the letter H. I then made a long horizontal rectangle for the base of the L which would go all the way through the letter H. Once I had gotten it into a position which I liked I merged all the layers together to make it easier for me to move around and then I placed it in the centre of the circle. Lastly, I played around with colour for the initials and I ended up choosing the same blue which is on the website in order to create consistence throughout my work. Also, the colour blue symbolises loyalty, confidence and intelligence, which are qualities I'd say are important for an artist, therefore by choosing the colour blue I can convey my artists personality.

The above logo looked too plain to me so I decided to copy the initial LH layer and then make it a really dark grey, which is also a colour used on my website, in order to put it behind the first layer to create a shadow effect. I really liked how it it looked as it made the letters stand out, giving a 3D effect. However, I still thought the logo looked a little bit too boring/plain so I decided to do the same thing to the circle layer. I copied it and made it the same dark grey colour and moved it over slightly in order to create the same 3D effect. I really liked this, as it helped the logo stand out. I think its much more eye catching now and I  feel like it suits my artist and matches the vibe of the website. It's very clean cut and quite sophisticated as I kept it simple, however the shadows which I added make it more playful/ youthful, which would attract my 16-25 target audience.

Once I had finished my logo I wanted to see what it would look like if I used the pink from the website, so I changed the initial colour. I also really how this colour looked.

Once I had tried the blue and pink, I couldn't decide which colour to go with, so I came up with the idea of making my logo into a gif. In photoshop I went to the 'window' options and selected 'timeline', which brought up a panel across the bottom of the software. This panel allowed me to insert whatever layers I wanted to create movement in. I copied the blue layer twice and the pink layer twice in order to make them alternate. I started with the blue and followed it up by the pink. I made them 7 seconds long and then made the last one 15 seconds to create a short pause between the alternations. I then selected 'loop' in order for the gif to constantly keep going. Once I was happy with it I merged the layers in order to delete the background so that it acted as a png so that the background didn't obstruct anything. Finally, I went to 'file' and selected 'export' then I clicked on 'save for web' which brought up the screen shown below. This allowed me to save my gif.

This is how the logo would look like on the actual website.
